Bedmax Young Rider Scholarship Programme

To mark their 20th year, BGA sponsor BEDMAX is opening its unique Young Rider Scholarship Programme to all disciplines for the 2020 season.

For the fifth year running, the pioneering manufacturer of UK best-selling BEDMAX and LITTLEMAX dust free pine shavings is looking to support an inspirational young rider throughout a twelve-month programme. Previously open only to those competing in eventing, dressage and showjumping, the Young Rider Scholarship for 2020 is open to riders in any equestrian discipline, aged between 16 and 23, living and training in England, Scotland or Wales.

Starting in February 2020, the scholarship gives one talented young rider a unique opportunity to represent BEDMAX in public, contribute to their social media communications and educational programmes, and attend some of the UK’s leading equine events.

The chosen Young Rider is expected to be an ambassador for both their own equestrian discipline and for BEDMAX. In return, BEDMAX will provide a year’s supply of BEDMAX shavings for one horse, BEDMAX branded clothing and horse rug, and expert support in education, training and PR.

BEDMAX Managing Director, Tim Smalley, hopes the Young Rider Scholarship will attract the very best of the next generation from across the whole equestrian spectrum: “Younger riders are the future of the equestrian industry, and the aim of the BEDMAX Scholarship programme is to provide support and education that will help tomorrow’s equestrian stars and their horses to be the best they can be.”

“In the last few years we have worked with some exceptional young riders who have been passionate about their horses, their sport and their goals, and who have been great role models. This year we are looking for a Young Rider from any discipline who can demonstrate these qualities, who wants to help us promote better understanding of equine healthcare, and who wants to take their equestrian career to the highest possible level.”

“We would like to thank our 2019 scholar Francesca Swallow and our Junior Scholar Sammy Wilson for their commitment, and we wish them both every success for the future.”

As a representative of BEDMAX, The Young Rider Scholar is expected to help raise awareness amongst younger riders of the crucial part that good bedding and stable management can play in keeping horses healthy and happy in the stable, and fit to perform at their best.

2019 Young Rider, Frankie Swallow, has taken a big step up with her eventer, Darius IV, this year.

“I have had such an amazing year of eventing, culminating in completion of my first advanced at Little Downham. Spending the year as Young Rider for BEDMAX has been the most wonderful experience and I am so glad that I applied. I have learned so much about the technical side of making the perfect bedding, and the difference it makes to the health and comfort of my horse, and I would encourage anyone considering applying to do so.”

Applications for the 2020 BEDMAX Young Rider Scholarship is now closed.
